Who We Are

The Illinois Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ISHA) is a non-profit professional organization, founded in 1960, comprised of licensed professionals with advanced degrees in Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology or Speech-Language-Hearing Science.

ISHA is here to:

Serve as a source for the public in all matters related to delays, disorders and difference of speech, language, hearing, feeding and swallowing.

Educate the public about:

  • Hearing problems
  • Speech and language delays
  • Swallowing and feeding disorders

Advocate for the needs of individuals with speech, language or hearing disabilities at local, state and federal government levels.

Speech-Language Pathologists

Professionals who prevent, identify, assess, and treat speech, language and swallowing problems. They work with children and adults who have any problems which adversely affect communication or swallowing including speech and language, voice, stuttering, pronunciation difficulties, hearing impairment, head and neck cancer and stroke.

Audiologists

Hearing health care professionals who specialize in preventing, identifying, and assessing disorders of hearing, auditory processing, balance and their effects. Audiologists provide treatment including hearing aids and other assistive listening devices, and rehabilitative therapy.

ISHA 2024 - 2026 Strategic Plan

The ISHA Executive Board recently met to create a Strategic Plan allowing the association to focus on agreed upon initiatives for the next three years. The plan was formally adopted on January 1, 2024.
