ISHA Members Testify on SLP Shortage in the Schools
ISHA's School Affairs Committee Co-Chair, Linnea Anderson Guither, and committee member, Karen Kockler, provided testimony at a subject matter hearing on Thursday, July 20 in downtown Chicago. This subject hearing is an advocacy effort of the Speaking for Children Coalition. Linnea and Karen serve on this coalition as the representatives from ISHA. Individuals from the five disciplines, speech-language pathology, social work, school psychology, school counselors, and school nurses, represented on the Speaking for Children Coalition testifed. Representative Michelle Mussman, chair of the Elementary and Secondary Education: School Curriculum and Policies, oversaw the hearing and stated in her closing statement that conversations about the issues of shortages would definitely be continued.
ISHA appreciates the time and work that ISHA lobbyist, Jim Morphew, spent representing the association and preparing Linnea and Karen. ISHA also expresses its gratitude to Linnea and Karen for their time and work representing ISHA and advocating for school-based SLPs.
