Committee Updates: November 2024

- ISHA’s Telepractice Committee met virtually on October 3rd and reviewed membership and university feedback from surveys regarding how telepractice is currently being used, telepractice as a service delivery model to meet common EDIA issues, including enhancement of access to care. The Telepractice Committee then used this feedback to inform ISHA Voice topics for 2025 and the ISHA Convention Panel 2025 content.
- ISHA’s Billing and Reimbursement Committee met at the end of October. The committee has obtained information regarding the FEES Medicaid code. At this time, Medicaid does not use or reimburse for a FEES procedure code. Some committee members continue to meet with the Medicaid Coalition. The coalition's last meeting took place in August. The committee is staying informed about the IDFPR new digital licensing system. Committee members continue to meet with Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, his team, and local legislators to advocate to pass legislation for stuttering treatment. Committee members met with ASHA members in August to discuss reimbursement challenges in IL. The committee is also obtaining information regarding myofunctional therapy and dental hygienists.
- ISHA’s Legislative and Regulatory Committee is working with ASHA, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Senator Preston on passing SB 3972 (stuttering insurance legislation).
- The Student Involvement Committee met virtually on October 3rd with a few of the committee members (Marissa Kile, Alex Jones, and Allison Gladfelter), the Association Affairs VP (Candace Taberloin), and students from campuses across Illinois. The following students were present: Kaitlyn Keisler and Gabriella from EIU, Kimberly Thull from Western Illinois, Emerson Gaines from NIU Dekalb, Mackenzie Udani from Rush, Corrie Penrod from UofI, and Mary from Governors. The Student Involvement Committee will soon be reviewing the John Consalvi Scholarship applications.
- ISHA’s Ethics Education Committee is excited to announce that the Ethics in Action Video Contest is live on the website. All programs have been contacted and invited to participate
- The 2025 Slate of Honors have been accepted by the ISHA Executive Board. The committee is preparing for the Honors presentation for this year's convention. Please attend the Honors presentation prior to the Keynote Thursday at convention. This year's class represents the best of ISHA!
- ASHA has provided the School Hearing Screening: State Laws and Guidelines as a resource to school-based professionals.
